smtp-benchmark is a benchmarking suite to measure the performance of SMTP gateways like Sendmail-based MTAs. It consists of two parts, an SMTP sender and an SMTP sink which can be connected to both sides of a mail server. The sender generates (dummy) messages at full speed, whereas the sink program disposes of messages received over SMTP as quickly as possible. The number of messages passed through indicates the performance. Message size and other parameters can be tuned.
