This package contains frontends to SANE ("Scanner Access Now Easy"), including xscanimage, xcam, and scanadf. Xscanimage is a GTK-based application for scanning images that can also be used as a GIMP-plugin. Xcam is used to get images from cameras supported by SANE. Scanadf is a command line frontend especially suited for scanners equipped with automatic document feeders (ADF).

HotShots is an application for capturing screens and saving them in a variety of image formats as well as adding annotations and graphical data (arrows, lines, text, etc.).

NoStaples aims to be an HIG-compliant desktop
scanning application with an emphasis on
low-volume to medium-volume document archival for
small businesses and home offices. It is written
in Python using PyGTK and Glade with an eye
towards clear, intelligible code.

GL2PS is a C library providing high quality vector
output for any OpenGL application. It uses sorting
algorithms capable of handling intersecting and
stretched polygons, as well as non manifold
objects. It provides advanced smooth shading and
text rendering, culling of invisible primitives,
mixed vector/bitmap output, and much more. It can
currently create PostScript (PS), Encapsulated
PostScript (EPS), Portable Document Format
(PDF), and Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) files, as well as LaTeX files for the text fragments.

The rfbproxy can be used for recording screen updates from a VNC server, or key/mouse events from a VNC viewer. Screen updates can be played back and viewed using vncviewer.

DVD-Baker generates a DVD consisting of menus and
slideshows from a picture collection stored in a
Menalto Gallery G2 Web site or in a locally stored
directory tree. Each "leaf" album (an album that
does not contain sub-albums) is used to create a
slideshow. The slideshows (and any DVD-ready MPEG
videos) are made accessible on the DVD with menus
that follow the structure of the Web site or
directories. Extra features include random or
sequential autoplay, and audio support.
Since dvd-slideshow is used to produce each slideshow,
it supports effects such as crossfades, crops, and 'Ken Burns' effects.

DigicaMerge is a commandline tool to merge directories of pictures taken with digital cameras. If you've got a digital camera, your hard disk probably contains many directories full of pictures all named with the same names. This utility allows you to merge such directories' contents into a new directory, and renames all the pictures on the fly, ensuring no filename clash will occur. You can define your own naming scheme, using either a set of predefined variables or any recognized Exif tag which may be present in your pictures, and also specify a pattern to select only certain files.

Apertus combines Open Hardware and Free Software to build a camera package that is able to record digital cinema formats at high quality
standards. It is based on Elphel's free software/open hardware cameras and custom-developed software and hardware.

fbdump is a simple tool to capture snapshots from
the Linux kernel framebuffer device and write them
out as a PPM file. Currently, most packed-pixel
framebuffer formats and the vga16 framebuffer are
supported.

Coriander is a GUI that let you control your 1394
digital video camera interactively. It features
SDL display, FTP image posting, file saving, and
Real streaming. It is for IIDC cameras, not for
consumer grade DV cameras.

Optar is a software codec that generates 2D bar codes for data storage on paper using a black and white laser printer and scanner. It fits 200kB on an A4 page, uses Golay forward error correction codes to ensure reliability, and can also be used to store data on photographic film.

libgphoto2 is a user space library which provides
applications with camera independent access to
almost 300 digital cameras. It contains more than
30 drivers to complement the drivers in your
operating system kernel.

xvidcap is a screen capture application enabling
you to capture videos from your XFree86 desktop
for illustration or documentation purposes. It is
intended to be a standards-based alternative to
tools like Lotus ScreenCam.
