BIRD is a dynamic routing daemon for UNIX-like systems. It should support all routing protocols used in the contemporary Internet, such as BGP, OSPF, RIP, and their IPv6 variants. It also features a very flexible configuration mechanism, and a route filtering language.

Proper iBGP was implemented and can be used with IGP. Multipath support (OSPF and static) was added. L2 link state detection is done. IPv6 router advertisements were added. OSPF reconfiguration was greatly improved. Point-to-MultiPoint interfaces (OSPF) were added. Minor changes and improvements were made in configuration file grammar. Community list matching was improved. The default for handling missing link-local addresses on route servers was changed. Use "missing lladdr drop" for the old behavior. An important bug was fixed for OSPF.
