K3b is a CD and DVD burning application for Linux systems optimized for KDE. It provides a comfortable user interface to perform most CD/DVD burning tasks, such as creating an audio CD from a set of audio files or copying a CD. While the experienced user can influence all steps of the burning process, the beginner may find comfort in the automatic settings and the reasonable defaults which allow a quick start. The actual burning is done by the command line utilities cdrecord, cdrdao, and growisofs.

Cd-Text loading in audio projects was fixed. Small
improvements were made to the device capabilities
detection. Writing speed detection was improved
again. Warnings are no longer displayed when
cdrecord is not suid root on Linux kernel 2.6.8
and above. K3bSetup now removes the suid root bit
on systems with Linux kernel 2.6.8 and above.
K3bSetup now also sets the proper permissions on
the generic devices. Handling of boot load segment
0 for "none-emulation" boot images was fixed.

This is basically a fix for kernel versions 2.6.9 and higher. The writer
detection should work again, although there have been problems with
2.6.9-rc2 which may not be caused by K3b. It is still recommended that
users stick to kernel version 2.6.7 or use one of the patches to revert
to the "old" SCSI command handling.
