rxvt-unicode is a clone of the well known terminal emulator rxvt, modified to store text in Unicode and to use locale-correct input and output. It also supports mixing multiple fonts at the same time, including Xft fonts, real transparency, and an optional embedded Perl interpreter that allows you to extend your terminal easily.

Due to bugs in most implementations of kqueue,
this backend has been
disabled on everything but NetBSD. A workaround
for spurious event
notifications from epoll and Solaris ports has
been implemented. Both
changes fix "urxvt freezes until you press a key"
and similar symptoms.
Also, the -keysym option has been re-added
(subject to Xlib parsing
rules), and a -xrm option that works like the Xt
option of the same name
has been added.

Rxvt-unicode now uses the libev high performance
event loop, so some portability problems should be
expected. Apart from that, the automove-background
Perl extension was replaced by the new "root"
pixmap flag. The background pixmap leak and the
way the XIM destroy callback was set up on 64-bit
systems was fixed. The Perl selection code has
been tuned. urxvtc no longer links against
unnecessary libraries.

This release contains a great number of smaller
bugfixes and improvements, such as fixing
combining characters with tinting, an updated
libptytty that doesn't eat pty handles anymore,
updates to the matcher extension, correcting
handling of the IUTF8 flag (in Linux), and
re-enabling meta-button2-pastes-clipboard
functionality. The Linux-Pty slowdown bug
workaround is now disabled by default as it
interacts badly with screen. Some obsolete
funtionality has been removed from the code, and a
lot of minor annoyances have been fixed.
