Tiago,

I use w3m-m17n without any personal settings. How about using w3m's 
default configuration by temporary renaming ~/.w3m to ~/.w3m_bk?

Also, you should try w3m in Terminal.app.
$ w3m http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/api/java/lang/System.html

If the above two do not give you good results, I am sorry but I think 
the problem is beyond me...
