I actually go a step farther and change some text messages of calendar.el et al. and provide these files in /Library/ Application Support/Emacs/calendar<emacs-major-number>. I found the reason now: the test version was made on a different Mac so I had to add that name, G5.local, to the list of Emacsen that need to be taught the above mentioned path ...
