audiopreview is a command-line tool that plays
previews of many audio file types (Ogg, MP3, etc.),
video file types (AVI, MPEG, Real, etc.), and Internet
streams. It can also be used as a regular command-line media file player (i.e. play the files entirely like yauap or mpc123 would).

Unix Amiga Delitracker Emulator (UADE) plays most
Amiga music file formats by simulating Amiga
hardware and software. It plays approximately 200
Amiga music file formats. It provides a command line tool for playing, but it also provides music player plugins for XMMS and Audacious. For other music players, there is a FUSE filesystem that transparently converts Amiga songs to WAV files.

MP3do is an "all in one" bash script. It is useful for decoding and mastering audio files. It can decode a list of MP3 or Ogg Vorbis files to WAV or CD-R, auto-convert poor quality MP3s to 44100Hz stereo, check whether all files fit on a CD, normalize all WAV files (adjust the volume to a standard volume level), and burn a CD.

Gnomoradio finds, fetches, shares, and plays music that is freely available under a Creative Commons license.

Tunez is an MP3/Ogg jukebox that works with a
voting system. You can vote for your favorite
tracks via the Web interface, and the Tunez daemon
will take care of the rest. It is ideal for shared
work environments and LAN parties. Tunez also
works equally well as an interface to an Icecast
server (v2.0 is supported via Ices v0.3). Tunez
makes it easy to update ID3 tags for all your
MP3s. Support for grabbing Amazon art in included
for all of your favorite albums. A full user/group
permission scheme is available so that you can
customize Tunez for your own use.

GOGO is a patch against LAME which makes it encode about twice as quickly while maintaining the same quality. It makes use of MMX, 3D Now!, and SSE if your system supports these instructions.

Gecko Multimedia System is a complete media solution,
able to play almost all media types and supporting
scheduled TV recording from online TV guides. It is
intended to replace your VCR, DVD, MP3, and CD player with one single software unit.

mp3cleanup is used to tidy up various aspects of
MP3 files, including filenames, ID3 tags, path,
m3u playlists, and bitrate. This is particularly
useful for hardware MP3 players that sometimes
have arbitrary limitations on the files they work
(well) with. It can operate on single files or on
all the files contained in a directory.

Qmmp (Qt-based Multimedia Player) is an audio player with a user interface similar to Winamp or Xmms. Alternative user interfaces also are available.

Nulloy is a cross-platform music player with a waveform seek bar, skins, support for many audio formats (MP3, FLAC, OGG, WMA, AIFF, etc.), tags, and cover art.

Coherence is a set of DLNA/UPnP devices, like
MediaServer and MediaRenderer. In addition, it
includes a well-designed framework to extend other
applications with DLNA/UPnP functionality. It also
has an emerging DBus API, enabling these
applications to participate in digital living
networks. It supports Playstation 3 (PS3), XBox,
and many other devices.

IMMS (Intelligent Multimedia Management System) is
an intelligent playlist framework that
tracks your listening patterns and dynamically
adapts to your taste. It is incredibly unobtrusive
and easy to use as it requires no direct user
interaction. Plugins are currently available for XMMS and BMP.

KMencoder is a frontend for Mplayer/Mencoder.

OST-Box is a set-top box user interface. It
provides an integrated way to access to all kinds
of media, with only a remote command (lirc). The
current features include TV and Web radio support,
TV program guide, record scheduler, browsing and
editing of photo and MP3 collections, playing of
video, and starting external programs (for
watching DVDs, TV, etc.). Differents looks are
available through a skin system. The interface is
entirely written in XML and JavaScript (using
Mozilla Spidermonkey). The xine engine is also
embedded for playing music and viewing TV.
