Kvblade is a kernel module implementing the target
side of the AoE protocol. Users can command the
module through sysfs to export block devices on
specified network interfaces. The loopback device
should be used as an intermediary for exporting
regular files with kvblade.

LazySync is a file-synchronization program
written for handheld devices using the SavaJeXE
Java operating system. It attempts to offer
similar functionality to HotSync and ActiveSync of
the Palm and CE platforms, and supports
synchronization via an existing TCP/IP network
connection between handheld and host.

dmzBackup is a program for backing up data in a
heterogeneous DMZ network. It features
disk-to-disk backup of remote/local host data,
data encryption, multiple simultaneous data flows,
error logs and email reporting, a search tool for
locating files in a backup, a compressed index,
host timestamps for incremental backups, human
readable journal logs, host based configuration
files, command-line arguments for interactive
backups, client side compression, and unlimited
(remote) backup clients for one backup host.

check is a simple commandline utility to calculate CRC-32 or Adler-32 checksums on the fly (that is, as a filter within a command pipeline), or to calculate such checksums on a list of files given as arguments. It is fast and was designed to be used for verification of backups and archives written to semi-reliable media (e.g., tapes), but it can also be used to compare files against versions stored within ZIP archives (same CRC) or to verify one-to-many copies without the need for multiple byte-for-byte comparisons.

HOZ (Hacha Open Zource) is an Hacha clone written
in pure C. It's smaller and faster than the
original, and it's Open Source. It includes different user interfaces, in CLI, Win32, and GTK 2.

mssqldump.php is a PHP script that dumps a
Microsoft SQL Server database into a SQL script.
It can also dump a table into CSV format.

rsync-mirror is used to backup local directories to another location on the local machine or to a remote machine. As the name suggests, it uses rsync for data transfer so it should be pretty efficient. It does not support any nifty backup features like incremental backups; all it does is mirror a directory to another location. To ease the task of creating backups, rsync-mirror takes care of managing the destination site of the backup. In case the target path needs to be mounted, rsync-mirror does so before backup and unmounts it afterwards.

Disc-O-Matic is a GTK+ CD/DVD-ROM archiving tool for
mastering and burning multiple discs. It can be used in situations where you have a lot of data that you wish to burn to discs (e.g. keeping an MP3 collection synchronized with a set of CD-RWs).

The Burgner project aims to be a complete free
burning suite that is written totally from
scratch - it does not include any code from
cdrtools (cdrecord and mkisofs) or cdrdao, and is
not a front-end for these tools. It can generate
ISO images with RockRidge and Eltorito
extensions, and burn audio, data, and extra CDs.

dosrestore unpacks backups made with the old DOS backup program.

spantape is a replacement for dd that features the
ability to sequentially span a stream of bytes
across multiple SCSI tapes. It supports both fixed
and variable block sizes and assures the correct
order of tapes during data recovery.

ImageBackup is a fully automatic incremental backup system for digital pictures. It will create backup CDs, one at a time, until all images have been backed up. You than then run the program regularly and it will keep gathering images until another disc is full. Once a disc is full, it can use AutoScrapbook to create Web-based index files, automatically generate an ISO image, and reset the staging area. Once an image has been stored in a backup ISO image, it will not be backed up again. Any new images, regardless of where they are mixed into your directory structure, will be added to backups when necessary.

VDMFEC implements Block ECC using a Forward Error
Correction (FEC) code based on Vandermonde (VDM)
matrices in GF(2^8) due to Luigi Rizzo. Given the
FEC parameters K and N, with N greater than K, N
blocks are written for every K input blocks in
such a way that any K blocks are sufficient to
reconstruct the data. That is, up to N - K blocks
out of every group of N blocks may be lost without
loss of data. VDMFEC's primary application is
intended to be in recovering data from unreliable
media such as diskettes. With appropriate
parameters, files may be recovered even with many
read errors. (Note that you must write the data to
the diskette using this program in order to be
able to recover the data later!)

KaTeker is a backup tool for Linux useful for small
companies and private people. It saves data onto hard
disk and CDs or other random access media. It provides a
graphical user interface, a database with information on
the media and the data saved onto the media. It supports
incremental backup, periodical backup, and restoring
files.

amandalogp is a package whose goal is to facilitate the interpretation of the logs and reports produced by Amanda (the Advanced Maryland Automatic Network Disk Archiver). It will parse the mail sent by Amanda (typically as a procmail filter) and send a colorized HTML version of that report which helps monitor a specific set of machines of special interest to some admins.
